Holiday Reader's Theatre

We had an excellent showing at our Holiday Reader's Theatre! We were excited to see so many families able to come! The students worked very hard and performed well. I was able to load the performances so you can watch them again.

Christmas Houses

Here are some pictures of the
Christmas houses the students made in art.
They look fantastic and the hallway smelled delicious!

Bookclub orders due Monday, Dec. 13

It has been a while since I sent home book orders. They are due Monday, December 13th. If you would like to order books online and pay with a credit card, below is the information for completing that. Or, you may choose to send orders with your students. The books usually take one week to return, therefore, these books should arrive in time for Christmas.

Online Ordering Information
Web address: scholastic.com/bookclubs
Class Activation Code: GQJY3

Dear Parent,

Now it’s easier than ever to find the perfect books for your child—shop our NEW online Book Clubs Web site. Choose from a much-wider selection of books than in the printed flyer. Plus, you can send your orders directly to me online and use your credit card to pay.

Best of all, we earn a FREE book for the classroom library every time a parent places an order online.

It’s so simple! Here’s how it works:
  • SIGN UP at www.scholastic.com/bookclubs. On the parent page, click the “Register” button in the “First Time Here?” section. Register for your own user name and password. When prompted, enter the one-time Class Activation Code shown above. This unique code ensures that your order is sent to me.
  • SELECT the books you’d like to order—choose from thousands of titles—many more than in our monthly flyers.

  • SEND your order to me online by the due date and your child’s books will be delivered directly to my classroom.
Ordering online is fast, easy, and secure.

Of course, you can still order using the form from the printed flyer. But why not see for yourself how convenient it is to order online?

Thank you!

Group Band!

Group band begins this week for 5th grade! On Tuesday and Thursday, all band students will need to bring their instruments. Instead of the lunchroom study hall at 2:20, the students will now be going to group band. The band lesson schedule will continue as it has been. Some days, students will have a lesson plus group band, and other days they will have just group band.

Updates

I hope everyone had an enjoyable Thanksgiving break. We have a few short weeks before winter break. That means, students need to be read, read, reading to meet their AR goals.

This Wednesday, the DARE Role Models will be visiting the 5th grade students. In other DARE news, students should be in the typing stage of their DARE essays. We will be sharing those with the class on December 9th. Graduation will be in January.

This week, students will have regular band lessons. Starting the week of December 6th, each day there is band, students will need to bring their instruments because group band will be starting. Students will continue to have their lesson once a week, but will also have group band every other day.

Thanksgiving

The Hufflepuff house was the winner of the poll last week. This week's poll is dedicated to Thanksgiving. I hope everyone takes a moment to be thankful for what we have. Also wishing you a safe and happy holiday as you travel (and possibly shop) :)

Harry Potter!!!

The sea turtle won last week's poll with an overwhelming 70% of the votes. This week's blog is dedicated to the upcoming movie release of Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Pt. 1 this Friday! I will be attending with my sister, and would be glad to discuss the movie with students if they get a chance to watch it this weekend. How closely does the movie following the original book? What parts were left out? What parts were altered? Did you picture anything differently than how it was represented in the movie? The site song this week is Hedwig's Theme, composed by John Williams. Also, the question of the weeks focuses on the book series.

Projects

I attempted to load some of the 5th and 6th grade presentations after school today, but after waiting 10 minutes for a 1 minute clip to load, I gave up for the day. I will continue to try to get our projects loaded, but I don't make any guarantees.

Updated pages!

I have added some pictures of class projects to each of the pages so check it out! Also, I am updating the music and poll for the week. I decided to change the music each week, because there are just too many good songs out there, so we will listen to many of them. The winner of last weeks poll was Strawberry.

Site Music!

I have added music to our page, and it is on a continuous repeat. If at any time you do not wish to hear the music, scroll to the bottom of the page and pause the song. I will try to change the song once a month. I had a hard time choosing our first one. There are so many great songs out there, I already have a list for the next few months!

Question of the Week

Each week I will be posting a new question/poll. Be sure to answer, and we'll see which answer is the most popular. The questions will range from serious to silly, and informational to important. Have fun answering!

Conferences!

Another round of conferences came and went. A big thank you to all parents and families who were able to attend. We appreciate you stopping by to visit with us. Remember, grades are available online and contact us if you ever have any questions.

Welcome to Ms. Smith's page!

Hello!

I wanted to create this page to allow students and parents the opportunity to share some of our success in our classroom. Being in fifth grade means being busy, so this blog will helps us stay connected and aware of our many events happening. I am new at this, so we will experiment together!
